Choices: Surface Pro 3?

(Source.)

So, let's disregard the source of this photo being some review site, and actually look at how fancy and pretty this laptop+tablet, the Surface Pro 3, looks.

Have you test-run/owned one yet? I'm looking to play around with one, because I want a new laptop, and this is looking like the best option for me. It's got everything that I love/revere functionally about Macbook Air, with a design I love and Windows on it.

I do not hate Apple, and I'm not a Windows-purist--I love my iTunes, iPhone and iPod. And my husband's iPad is great. (Wow, we sound so privileged. Let's be real, if you're reading this, you are, too.) But I do love Windows. And the more that I'm exposed to Windows 8 with my work laptop, the more I have found that I'm not afraid of it, and understand it better. (I knew it'd just take some time. Even Millennials can be technological grouches, too. Have you seen the way we act when Facebook changes?)

So, what is your opinion? I need help.

  1. For just word processing and internets, those are great though I find they tend quite strongly towards the tablet utilization, rather than the laptop utilization. If you're writing for long periods, I would recommending buying a separate keyboard. :)

    1. Definitely not a bad point. If I can manage to play with one sometime, I'll see how I feel about this keyboard. I don't typically like using extra keyboards like that, but it's definitely worth looking into for prolonged use. :)

  2. Aw man, now I wish I wasn't so out of the loop with technology! I went away for 3 months and have forgotten all knowledge on these things :p I can ask some of the boys at work if you like, seeing as I work JB Hifi - Australia's number one computer retailer (ahaha, I sound so brainwashed. Our phone's have the movie man voice delivering the indoctrination when we're on hold.)

    It sure is pretty!

    1. Hey, if you could snag some knowledge from them it really would help. :) I'm gonna try to ask some folks around work that might know more.

  3. I seriously contemplated getting this tablet computer before I took the jump and got the LG Chromebox desktop instead. It's been almost 10 years since I last bought a new computer- my Dell Inspiron from 2006 is still kicking just as good as when we first bought it at Sam's Club that Christmas. I've never used anything but Windows Vista (ha! i'm soooo out of it these days) so when I went to Best Buy to buy a new computer I kind of embarrassed myself because I had no idea how to use any of their computers (fyi, they will call out your idiocy in a heartbeat if you're not "up with the times") but now I have a Chrome base computer that is pretty awesome because it's just internet on a computer. However, when I bought it I had no idea it wouldn't actually store anything on board- it only has online cloud storage. Other than not being able to run Adobe Photoshop (which is something I use almost on a daily basis) I really like it. So, if you're looking for the most basic computer you can find that's seriously fast and easy- pick a Chrome base computer. But I think Windows has the most versatility out of any of the top competitors I've heard of so far. Apple is expensive, Windows is practical (and still kinda expensive lol). If you're wanting a lot of onboard storage and the ability to sync apps from one place to another, I think this Windows is so versatile - being able to fully run Photoshop (oh, my dreams!) ON A TABLET, with a pen, omg.. it's so good! IF you like Photoshop that is, haha. I think it would be a great choice and I reeeeeally hope you post about it if you get it because I want to cry about not being able to afford it lol. <3

    1. Hahaha it is really expensive, and yeah the ability to use Photoshop so smoothly on a tablet and to even have a pen & tablet again (because my Wacom died awhile ago) would be amazing. I actually have a coworker who has a Surface Pro 3, so I'm going inquire about how she feels about it.

We're issued laptops at work, but she actually went out of her way to purchase a Surface Pro 3 to use as her work laptop, so I hope she doesn't regret that decision. Only time will tell, haha.
